BBC to mark Beatles' Love Me Do anniversary

BBC Local Radio is planning a day dedicated to The Beatles to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their first top 20 hit, Love Me Do.
My Beatles Story day, scheduled for 5 October will see all 39 BBC Local Radio stations feature listeners’ memories of the Liverpudlian band.
The broadcaster has commissioned a survey of 12, 000 people in which they will select their favourite Beatles track.
Audiences will also be asked for their memories of the band, such as if they met them in the street or saw them perform, which will be featured throughout the day’s programming.
My Beatles Day will be preceded with an hour long documentary on BBC4, produced in-house and fronted by Stuart Maconie. The one-off Love Me Do - 1962 will air on 4 October and explore the reasons why Liverpool was the birthplace of the musical phenomena.
Radio 2 is also to air a Beatles Season including a Blaggers Guide To The Beatles with David Quantick and The Casbah Club: Birthplace Of Merseybeat, which investigates the infamous club.
Roger McGough and Craig Charles will also front docs as part of the Radio 2 season.
