A LADY beetle landed on the guitar belonging to a Moorefield Girls High School student - and the happening led to the name of the school's band The Lady Beatles.

The (all-girl) rock band has grown in size since it began with only four members and now performs at venues such as Carlton Public School's assembly, the WIN Jubilee Oval sleepout and Rockdale Plaza during Education Week.

Year 11 student Yahnee Ortiz, of Ramsgate, is from a musical family.

"It's great to play a musical instrument with a group of girls who enjoy it as much as I do," Ortiz said.

Maryann Bowen of Kogarah is a year 7 student who loves singing with the band.

One of the driving forces behind the group is English teacher Alexis Heron, who admits to enjoying the therapeutic release that music gives her when she plays with The Lady Beatles.
