It’s official: Paul McCartney plays Edmonton’s Rexall Place on Nov. 28

Former Beatle Paul McCartney will be making his first visit to our city, ending about 50 years of waiting for local fans, when he performs Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 8 p.m. It’s part of his latest series of On The Run tour dates across the U.S. and Canada.

His Edmonton show was announced at a news conference Friday morning at Rexall Place with Mayor Stephen Mandel. Tickets will go on sale Sept. 14 at Ticketmaster, according to paulmccartney.com. Including fees and GST, they range in price from $37.77 to $274.27.

The city has been abuzz with speculation since Northlands and tour promoter Live Nation issued a news release Thursday about the announcement of a “major historical concert event.”

When using those words, only McCartney truly applies, though Barbra Streisand, Madonna, Radiohead and the Rolling Stones were other hot theories tossed around on social media sites and local radio and TV shows.

The Beatles played their first gigs in 1960; released their first single, Love Me Do, in 1962; and made their first trip to North America in 1964.

McCartney has released dozens of albums since The Beatles announced their break up in 1970, both with Wings, his much-maligned ’70s band, and as a solo act.

More to come …
