Britain’s Secret Homes is being filmed at the former West Derby family home of the Beatles’ first drummer, Pete Best, who will also be interviewed for the programme.
The filming came about after Pete’s half brother, Roag, introduced the show’s producer and director to the Casbah by giving a tour of the basement club, scene of the legendary early performances of the Fab Four before they began playing regularly at the Cavern and went on to hit the big time.
Roag said: “We were approached by the programme makers after they found out about the Casbah on the internet.
“They arranged to come down for a visit and they’d only got halfway through the tour before they said this was amazing.”
He added: “The popular misconception is that the Beatles phenomenon began at the Cavern, which is untrue and unfounded.
“The Casbah was where the Beatles started. Our mum Mona was handling the business side and even got them their first booking at the Cavern.”
The programme will also feature a live performance by music entrepreneur Roag’s latest discovery, a band called Tirolark.
English Heritage gave the Casbah club in Hayman’s Green grade II listed status in 2006.
Best’s mum Mona, originally bought the Victorian property following a win on the horses and converted its coal cellar and basement after reading about beat clubs in London.
John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison played their first gig there in August, 1959, as The Quarrymen.
Best soon joined as the drummer and the band became The Silver Beatles.
The foursome went on to perform at the venue until it closed in 1962, when The Beatles played a farewell gig.
