George Harrison, Paul Simon Documentaries Score Multiple Emmy Nominations

Martin Scorsese‘s acclaimed documentary about the life of late Beatles guitarist George Harrison has scored five 2012 Emmy Awards nominations. George Harrison: Living in the Material World, which premiered last October on HBO, is in the running for the Outstanding Nonfiction Special and also will compete in the best directing, cinematography, picture editing and sound editing categories for a nonfiction program.
In two of the aforementioned categories, best nonfiction special and sound editing, Living in the Material World will go up against Paul Simon‘s Graceland Journey: Under African Skies. That flick focuses on Simon’s return trip to South Africa to commemorate the 25th anniversary of his landmark album Graceland.
Among the other music-related programming receiving Emmy nods this year is ACM Presents: Lionel Richie and Friends in Concert, which will compete for the Outstanding Sound Mixing in a Variety Series or Special trophy.
The 64th annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be handed out on Sunday, September 23 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, and air live on ABC.
