New Beatles Documentary DVD Offers Seldom-Seen Footage

A documentary commemorating the 50th anniversary of The Beatles arrived on DVD this week.
The one-hour film, The Beatles: Their Golden Age, chronicles the group from the time Ringo Starr replaced original drummer Pete Best in 1962 until the band’s 1970 breakup. It features some rarely seen footage, according to producer Les Krantz, including John Lennon reading his poetry, Paul McCartney lecturing a reporter about revealing his LSD usage and George Harrison flirting with then-new wife Patty Boyd.
“We liked to show a side of the boys that was seldom very public,” Krantz said in a statement, although the movie also includes better known footage like clips from the Fab Four’s movies and John Lennon’s public explanation of his famous remark that the group was “bigger than Jesus.”
