Sir Paul, 71, said: “I once heard someone say a certain major star was very humble. Eric Clapton said: ‘The great ones usually are.'”

The Beatle legend was replying to a US fan who asked on his website forum for the most inspirational thing ever said to him.

Sir Paul played bass and did backing vocals for ex-Cream legend Clapton, 68, on his latest album Old Sock.
