Historic picture - John Lennon in the Royal Hall, Harrogate

Iconic - this incredible photo of John Lennon and The Beatles on stage at Harrogate’s Royal Hall has scarcely been seen in public since the Harrogate Advertiser published it 50 years ago.
It was taken on this day exactly half a century ago at the Fab Four’s only appearance in Harrogate in front of devoted female fans.
To The Beatles it was just another show, one of many in that incredibly hectic, epoch-making year of 1963.
“Derek Arnold presents Dancing for Teens and Twenties with The Beatles” announced the poster outside the Royal Hall.
To anyone lucky enough to be there that night in Harrogate on Friday, March 8, 1963, it has turned out to be a bit more special than that.
To coincide with the historic anniversary, the Royal Hall Restoration Trust is holding a special concert with top tribute band The Upbeat Beatles and members of local support acts Barry Corbett and The Mustangs and Ricky Fenton and The Apaches on Wednesday, March 27.
This week’s Harrogate Advertise has published an eight-page souvenir, The Beatles at the Royal Hall, free with every paper, and full of memories and pictures.
Don’t miss it. The photo is printed courtesy of audience member Mrs Catherine Hemming.
